
There are cakes that are just cakes — and those that smell like childhood. This old-fashioned yellow cherry cake was never anything complicated.
Eggs, sugar, a little oil, and those tart cherries that sink into the batter as it bakes. I remember the baking pan on the table, Mom cutting the first squares while I’m already standing nearby, waiting for it to cool just a little. That first bite — soft, juicy, slightly tangy, and powdered sugar all over my fingers. It was made when guests came over, but also when they didn’t — simply because it was Sunday. Today we have all kinds of desserts. But this one… this one takes you home.

Measure: 1 cup = 200 ml
Ingredients:
- 5 eggs
- 1.5 cups sugar
- 1 cup yogurt
- 1 cup oil
- 2 cups flour + 1 packet baking powder
- 400-500 g sour cherries
- powdered sugar + vanilla sugar for dusting
Preparation:
- Beat the eggs and sugar for 5 minutes.
- Add the oil, yogurt, flour, and baking powder; mix for another 2 minutes.
- Pour the batter into a baking pan, arrange the cherries on top, and gently press them in.
- Bake until nicely golden (175°C / 350°F for about 35-40 minutes).
Serve dusted with powdered sugar and enjoy with your favorite coffee.
